False Eyelashes – They’re not just for special occasions!

Or at least, that’s what the celebrities in magazines have led me to believe. Kardashian sisters – I’m looking at you.

But, they’re not the only ones. It seems that everyone these days is sporting thick, gorgeous false lashes – even at the grocery store!

I personally haven’t jumped on the everyday false lash bandwagon, but do love them for nights out.

What about you? Should lashes be saved for special occasions or do you rock them daily? Or do you stay away from falsies completely?

Neons have been on the trend radar for awhile, and it looks like they’re going to be big again for spring.

I happen to love them when used as a pop of color, and mixed with neutral pieces. I’m currently on the lookout for a skinny neon belt to pair with tan linen pants for when the weather warms up. Of course no spring outfit of mine is complete without complementary nail polish so I’m planning on rocking China Glaze Neon Celtic Sun on my tips.

On the flipside, I know there are some of you who groan at the mere mention of neons, and are completely content to have left them behind in the 80s. So I thought I’d make them the subject of this Friday’s Fashion Poll.

Bangs are having a moment, and I have to say that I’m a little jealous of anyone who can pull them off. I was “blessed” with a cowlick on the left side of my forehead that makes anything other than a long swoop impossible. Sigh…

Have you heard about the trend, “halo headbands?” According to Glamour.com, it’s when you wear a headband on top of your head like it’s a halo.

Lately, I’ve seen several celebrities  sporting a halo, but I’m not sure if I’m sold on the trend. It looks a little Julius Caesar to me.

I love me a red lip. Like smelling a certain food or perfume from your past, it’s something that instantly brings up memories for me.

I put it on and I’m transported to the early 90s, watching my older sister and her friends pass around that ubiquitous tube of red lipstick while they get ready for their dates. Not to mention using a can of hairspray each!

Or I think of my dancer days and having our director say, “Put on your red lipstick, ladies!” before every performance. I hated wearing it at the time but looking back at pictures, it made our smiles so bright and beautiful.

One of the most aggravating things about going to the gym, besides the sweaty guy who doesn’t wipe off his machine, is when my hair gets rebellious and won’t stay in place. I cannot stand to workout with even one strand touching my face or neck, so I always pack extra bobby pins in my gym bag  just in case.

But, not everyone feels the same way.  According to our annual Best Tressed Survey, 43% say their go-to workout hairstyle is down.

What are your thoughts on New Year’s Eve? Greatest excuse ever to get dressed up and have a blast? Or is it overrated and comfy clothes at home are preferable?

I fall somewhere in the middle. I want to look cute but I don’t want to actually go anywhere. Crowds and craziness aren’t my scene but you better believe that I’ll be at home with friends sporting curled hair, sparkly nails (FingerPaints Fun-Fetti), and red lips (Femme Couture Prime Wear in Black Cherry is a new favorite).

I’ve been watching a lot of holiday movies of the “Made for TV” variety lately (don’t judge!) and I’ve noticed a common theme – everyone looks really fancy on Christmas day.

In my house this is so not the case. We stay in our (matching) pajamas as long as possible and believe me, no one looks put together. At all.

This got me curious about your Christmas day beauty tradition. Would your look be right at home in a holiday movie? Or do you give your beauty tools and products a break on the 25th?

I’ve always liked this snapshot. It shows my dad in his Jeep, plowing the snow from our driveway.

It’s a typical December scene in the winter wonderland known as Michigan.

It got me to thinking about dressing for cold weather.

Our parents taught us to cover up from head to toe and insulate every square inch of ourselves with thick clothing.

But there are always those who sacrifice themselves for fashion.

You know these folks. You might even be one! They’re the ones who say, “No, an insulated coat makes me look heavy, so I’ll take the lighter one.” Or “I just styled my hair and it looks marvelous, so there’s no way I’m putting on a hat.”

Where do you stand on this issue?

FingerPaints Fun-Fetti

Lately it seems that I’ve turned into a magpie. Everything sparkly, especially glitter nail polish, makes me say OOOH SHINY! MUST HAVE NOW! My polish collection is starting to overflow with sparkly, hard-to-remove-but-oh-so-worth-it glitter polish, and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.
