Pine Cones & Ribbons Nail Art

While I was decorating my home for the holidays, I thought…why should my nails be left out? So, I decided to add some seasonal décor to them. Below are 4 easy steps to add “pine cones and red ribbons” to your nails. You need light pink and white polish, and “striping polish” like Stripe Rite from Sally Beauty Supply in medium and dark green, white, red, brown and black. Remove any old polish that may be on your nails. Tip: never use Pure Acetone on your natural nails…it dries out the nail bed and makes the nails brittle. Apply a basecoat. I use Nail Life Gripper. This basecoat will remain a little “sticky”.

Step 1: Apply pink polish to your entire nail. Then paint a white diagonal swatch across the nail.

Step 2: Using the medium green and dark green, with small, short strokes, paint a mini-garland diagonally across the nail. Highlight with white striping polish.

Step 3: With the brown striping polish, paint two pine-cone shapes. Highlight with black and white striping polish.

Step 4: Paint two red swirls for ribbons and your finished.

Apply two topcoats like Out the Door and let dry.

Now your nails aren’t “left out in the cold” for the holidays.

I hope you have fun and I will be blogging again soon.

Candy Corn Nails

I always marvel at the skills and creativity nail bloggers possess. They effortlessly swatch entire collections without a smudge, and easily transform their tips into works of art. Do I sound jealous? I am. So I decided to take on a little nail art challenge. The Daily Nail I am not, but I had fun doing it, so that’s all that matters, right? Here are the steps:
Step 1: Cast of Characters

* Candy Corn (inspiration and snack)
* Stripe Rite in Hot Orange
* Stripe Rite in Hot Yellow
* China Glaze in White on White
* Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat

Step 2: White Base

I applied two coats of China Glaze White on White. Please ignore the smudge on my middle finger.

Step 3: Orange

Next I applied a band of orange along the middle of each nail. This was my first time working with Stripe Rite but it was surprisingly easy to use.

Step 4: Yellow

After letting the orange dry for a bit, I added the yellow. Like a lot of neons, the yellow was pretty matte so I would definitely suggest a top coat to make it shine. I personally refuse to do my nails without my trusty Seche Vite.

Conclusion:

Fun, candy corn nails that are perfect for Halloween! I’m definitely a loooong way from being a professional but I still think they’re cute. =)

Gray is the new black…again

Have you heard that gray is once again THE color for fall? I attended a presentation on trends last week and everyone is still all about The Gray. What are your thoughts? Do you agree or are you sick of it?

My love affair with it continues, but I admit that gray by itself can come across as a little…blah. That’s why I prefer to mix it with pops of colors, especially burnished oranges. I’ve got pumpkin spice lattes, gray cashmere scarves and caramel scented everything on the brain right now, so it’s only natural that it’s spilling over into my beauty look. Smoky eyes and nails the color of pie? Bring it on!

Here’s a roundup of some products featuring my current color combo obsession:

  1. FingerPaints in Copper Elements
  2. Femme Couture Baked Eye Duo in Copper Chic
  3. China Glaze in Avalanche
  4. Palladio Tinted Lip Balm in Orange
  5. Palladio Baked Eye Shadow in Gun Metal
  6. Palladio Eye Ink in Smokey
  7. Sally Girl Mini Squeeze Tube Lip Gloss in Shimmer Pink
  8. Sally Girl Mini Baked Eye Shadow in Silver

So what colors are you loving this fall?

Best Sellers in Nail Color

Do you ever wonder which products sell the best, especially when it comes to nail color?

Of course there are the seasonal colors. Spring colors start with pastels and some more intense hues, Summer lends to hotter colors like neons, bright blues, greens and pinks. Fall and winter colors are darker reds, browns, and copper. But you can wear some of these all year round, especially if it’s a neutral, black, or red. I didn’t include all the colors here, but you get the idea.

Well, today I’m going to reveal the top sellers for the nail polish brands sold in Sally Beauty stores.

Sally Girl:  Type A

Ultra Pro:  Punki Pink

China Glaze:  Neon Pink Voltage

FingerPaints:  Art Dealer Teal-er

Savvy by Femme Couture:  USA Blush

Orly:  Oh Cabana Boy

Do you own any of these colors?  Which one is your favorite?

All In The Family

As you know from previous posts, I love nail polish. Believe it or not, I don’t wear any polish on my fingers for various reasons… I work in the yard a lot, I love to garden, and I’m constantly testing product on my nails at work, whether it be a color or a treatment. But I always keep my toes polished.  Always.

I have a teenage son and he is very aware of my career and forcibly familiar with Sally Beauty stores. One spring a couple of years ago we made a trip about four hours south of home to go pick up our baby goose at a hatchery. Of course I had to stop at all the Sally Beauty stores along the way. He was annoyed, yet he retained all the information and reminds me to this day.

Anyway, I paint my toes in front of the television while we watch movies together. He’s always curious about what color I’m painting on my toes and always has an opinion on the color. Hmmm, I wonder where he gets that. Recently I applied one of the FingerPaints fall collection colors, Autumn Moonlight. He gave his thumbs up, so I’m good to go. It’s a great blue that looks nice with my fair skin, so I’ll keep it on for a little while.

Do any of your children help you pick out colors? What shades do they tend to favor?

Hello everyone!

So, I was thinking about what my first post would be about. What can I share with the people who will read this? People who know me well know that I don’t ever have a problem coming up with something to talk about, especially my personal story and my experiences. I have a story for everything or an opinion, take your pick.

So, I’ve decided I’m going to share my love of nail polish. I love, and I mean I LOVE nail polish. I love color in general whether it is on the walls of my house, fabric or nail polish. I’m like a kid in a candy store when I see polish in stores. My eyes light up and I get really excited! My favorite color is red. I’m not scared of using a green, blue, orange or even black, but I am drawn to reds and bright pinks. Have you ever taken a quiz about colors and how it connects to your personality? My personality is red. Does your personality match your favorite color? What’s your favorite nail polish color to wear?
