Sally Beauty Supports PBA/NCA

Last weekend during Premier Orlando, one of the largest professional hair shows in the US, Sally Beauty presented $10,000 to support the Professional Beauty Association’s Junior Ladies Hair Team USA at HairWorld 2012 in Milan.  This competition, also known as the “Olympics of Hair,” is held every two years.  Team USA is composed of three talented cosmetologists that will be competing in four timed competitions to bring home the gold for the United States.

In this photo, Kyleigh Banks, one of the team members, is posing with her creation inspired by the Hunger Games books, entitled “Mockingjay, Catching Fire.” What you can’t see from this photo is that the entire mannequin head is made from strands of hair.  Amazing!! Everyone at Sally Beauty wishes them well in the competitions in Milan.

Sally Beauty Supply’s Vendor Awards

Every year, we all look forward to honoring our vendor partners at our annual awards breakfast during one of the biggest business to business professional beauty shows in the country, CosmoProf North America in Las Vegas.

This year, as we gathered for breakfast at a Mandalay Bay restaurant near the entrance to the exhibit floor, there was excitement and anticipation in the gathered crowd, as they drank their coffee and juice waiting for the ceremony to start.  For the past 16 years Sally Beauty has been selecting the most innovative and dedicated vendors as our “Partners in Progress” and this year was no different.

Sally Beauty Supply LLC honored Conair Professional Group, Fisk Industries, Star Nail and Strength of Nature and principals of each company accepted the award from the merchandise director over their category.  One of our manufacturers, Fisk Industries,  even brought the next generation of leadership to the breakfast – the elementary school age grandsons of the current President!

Mike Spinozzi, President of Sally Beauty Supply, and Sue Davidson, Group Vice President, Merchandising for Sally Beauty, hosted the event and helped congratulate each of the award-winning companies.  Here are the group shots of each company receiving their award:

Sally Beauty Awards PBA/NCA Scholarships

Behind the curtain of the main stage at the International Salon and Spa Expo, the excitement in the air was electric. Paola Campos and Alyssa Loo, two of the 13 winners of Sally Beauty Supply scholarship monies for cosmetology education, were waiting off stage for their moment in the spotlight. And finally the presentation ceremony began as Mike Spinozzi, President of Sally Beauty Supply, was introduced and was greeted by applause from the crowd of beauty professionals assembled in the audience. Mike then introduced Bruce Selan, President of the Professional Beauty Association, and his cohort, Grace Santiler Nowik, Vice President of the Beauty Professionals Section (NCA). They thanked Sally Beauty for its 19 years of continuous support for the scholarship program, and the more than $190,000 contributed for education during that period.

Mike then invited the two winners, Paola and Alyssa, to come out on stage to accept the ceremonial check on behalf of all the scholarship winners. Amid thunderous applause, the group posed for photos with the oversized check made out to the PBA/NCA for $10,000.

If you or someone you know would like to apply for scholarship monies, visit either or and download an application. It could be you on the stage at the ISSE show in Long Beach next January!!

NBCL Scholarship Luncheon

Outside it was a gray and overcast day, with the smell of rain in the air, but inside the Clarion Hotel in Shreveport, LA, the mood was bright and sunny. Ten deserving cosmetology students were being honored as recipients of  scholarship monies from Sally Beauty to continue their educations.  This happy occasion was the annual National Beauty Culturalists’ League (NBCL) Board luncheon.  The NBCL is over 90 years old and is the largest association of African-American cosmetologists in the world, with membership in the US and the Bahamas. For the past 10 years Sally Beauty has been granting $10,000 a year in scholarships for deserving students to fund their cosmetology education.

First, it was time to take photos.  There was a lot of nervous giggling and tittering as the 10 winners lined up to have their photos made holding the oversized presentation check.  Dr. Katie  Catalon, the President of the NBCL for the past 6 years, stood proudly among the winners in her smartly-tailored red suit.  Renee Reynolds, the Sally Beauty Director of Multicultural Products, smiles from the left side of the photo.

Next, it was time to eat lunch. The 90 NBCL Board Members, along with the winners, enjoyed a delicious chicken pasta primavera topped off by a slice of Italian Crème Layer cake for dessert.   At each attendees place was a favor bag containing  Silk Elements ColorCare After Color Sealer,  FingerPaints Nail Color and Silk Elements MegaSilk Moisturizing Treatment.  Are any of these products your favorites?

Behind the scenes at Sally Beauty

Here at Sally Beauty, we are proud to offer more than 6,000 great products. But being the world’s largest beauty supplier is not a solo effort. We rely on our vendor partners for many of the quality items we stock in our stores and online — the products you use every day — and we’re fortunate to work with a lot of great companies.

Once a year we honor our vendor partners by singling out several for special recognition. We call it the Sally Beauty Partners In Progress Awards. This year they were presented during Cosmoprof North America in Las Vegas, which is one of the largest professional beauty shows in the country. It’s always a highlight of my year.

The honorees are selected for their ability to bring creative, innovative products to our stores that solve our customers’ every beauty need. They must also meet four specific service standards. Here are this year’s winners:

Zotos International

Namaste Laboratories

Cosmetic Design Group

Betty Dain Creations

First, an abundant breakfast of pancakes, bacon, fruit, and Mexican egg dishes! Then each vendor was recognized individually and presented with an engraved crystal award by the Sally Beauty merchandising director for the product category.  The principals of each company made comments to the group, and each recognized and praised their teams who were present at the event. Some of them became emotional when they recounted the importance of each player and their key contributions to the success of the company. It was a fun event and an inspiring one.

Even though you might not be familiar with our vendors’ company names, I know you will recognize their products. Take a look at some of them below.  Do you have a favorite that you can’t live without?
