Friday Fashion Poll

Well color me surprised! Blue eye shadow is trendy again.

It was all over runways for Spring 2013, but I’ve yet to work up the nerve to try it. It reminds me a little too much of the 80s and this not-always-so-nice girl in high school who wore THICK layers of blue eye shadow, topped off with blue eyeliner. Cute, right?

That said, I can see the appeal of this modern interpretation. It looks surprisingly fresh and fun when done right. I also love how it makes eyes POP!

What about you? Would you bring back the blue? Did you never leave it? Please take a moment to vote and let us know your thoughts in the comments!

Susan Van Heusen

Search Marketing Manager

Susan Van Heusen manages Sally Beauty’s affiliate and marketplace programs and is instrumental in bringing Internet surfers to SallyBeauty.com.

What do you love about your job?

One of the things I’m most passionate about is the work I do with search engines. I help people find SallyBeauty.com on sites like Google and Bing, and once they get to our site, I help them find the products they are looking for.

How do you spend your free time?

I’m somewhat of a creative person. Within the last year, I’ve taken up photography and become addicted to Instagram. I’m also addicted to Pinterest with its do it yourself ideas. I’ve made wreaths for my door, crafts for my son’s peewee football team, and several gardening projects. Remember that Japanese boxwood wreath with the big letter A on it last spring? Nailed it! Now I’m lining up projects for Halloween and Christmas.

Give us a fun fact about yourself.

When I was eight, I didn’t want to share a suitcase with my little sister for a trip to Nana’s house. So I made my own suitcase with two boxes, paper clips, and rubber bands. Maybe I’m related to MacGuyver!

What is your favorite product available at Sally Beauty?

I love the Hot Shot Tools Transparent Pink Hair Dryer! I’m rough on dryers and I go through one a year. I use it every day (plus I’m clumsy and I drop it a lot). This dryer has lasted longer than any other, and it’s super cute!

Hair Color for People Who Don’t Color Their Hair

A product thumbnail of Ion Demi 00 ClearIt’s not exactly hair color, but it is sold in the hair color aisle and it does enhance any hair color! I’m talking about Ion Color Brilliance Demi-Permanent Hair Color in 00 CLEAR.

Movember Nails

To help support Movember and its mission of supporting men’s health, I thought it would be fun to paint a moustached face on one hand and a coordinating pattern on the other hand. I think they go very well together. Hope you do, too!

Let’s get started!

Supplies:

Nail Polish Remover
Stripe Rite Black Striping Polish
Polish Remover Pads
Wax paper
Clear Base Coat
Clear Top Coat
Sally Girl Pure White
Dotting Tool or Toothpick

Remove your old polish, file and buff your nails. Apply a clear basecoat and let dry.

Step 1: With the Sally Girl Pure White polish, paint the entire nail. You will probably need two coats. Let dry.

Step 2: Using Stripe Rite black striping polish, beginning in the lower third of the nail in the center, paint one half of the mustache. The shape is a little like a “leaf”. Then paint the other half the same way.

Next, drip a few drops of the black polish on piece of wax paper. With the large end of a dotting tool, make two dots for eyes. And, using the striping brush, paint two eyebrows above each eye.

Step 4: Before painting this step, be sure the eyes are completely dry. Drip a few drops of white polish on the piece of wax paper. With a smaller dotting tool, paint a white dot in the center of each eye to make glasses. Let dry.

For an alternate look on the other hand, paint your nails black with a thin white stripe across the tip. Let dry.

To finish, apply two coats of topcoat to all nails and let dry.

I think this design is a great way to support such an important cause. I hope you enjoy painting them as much as I did.

Until next time…keep those nails covered.

Good news!

I have major news to share with you all! I made my routine trip to my local Sally Beauty Supply this weekend and you will never guess what I saw!! Euronext, my favorite hair extension brand of all time, went down in price! I cannot even tell you how excited that makes me!

Any Sally Beauty shopper can now save around $5 to $10 off with the new price, but because I am a Beauty Club Card customer, I saved $15 dollars!

I called all of my girlfriends as soon as I left the store to share the news and you better believe I will be picking up a few packages for some lucky family members for the holidays. Long, luxurious hair here I come!!

Friday Fashion Poll

Ombré hair has been on the fashion radar for quite awhile now. I keep thinking I’m going to get sick of it, but I never do.

Last night I ran into one of my friends (pictured) who had just jumped on the ombré bandwagon and it looked amazing! I fell in deep lust with it all over again.

What about you? Are you over ombré or are you like me?

Plugged In Hard Candy

Who doesn’t love candy? When I think of Christmas, I remember going to my grandparents’ house, and how they always had all this weird candy that I had never heard of or seen. They had the swirled and striped candies in all different colors and shapes – red and blue ribbons, the yellow, orange, and white

swirled circles, the long green and blue ones. I never knew what they would taste like either, so it was always like a roulette game – hit or miss whether I liked them. Now it’s a treat when I actually find that type of candy, because it brings back all of my memories.

Those types of candies were the inspiration for this holiday season’s Plugged In Hard Candy appliances. The swirl of black or blue and white give the illusion of an old fashioned hard candy. There are two 1” flat irons, a cone wand, a hair dryer, and two paddle brushes. They’re guaranteed to bring back my memories of choosing which candy to try, without the risk of the bad taste.

Thanksgiving isn’t for 13 more days, but I already have turkey and all the trimmings on the brain. I blame the extreme popularity of pumpkin products this year for making me a tad obsessed this early. I love me some pumpkin but does anyone else feel our love of it has gotten a little out of hand? At this point I’m a little surprised we don’t fill up our cars with pumpkin scented gas! #Fridaysmakemeexaggerate

But, I’m getting off topic here. What I really want to talk about is Thanksgiving Fashion. What’s your stance? Is your Turkey Day spent in comfortable sweats and a ponytail, or do you dress up for the occasion with makeup and fixed hair? I do a little of both. Most of the day is spent watching the parade and lounging around in my pjs, and when it’s time for dinner I like to make an effort with my appearance. We’re not talking black tie and formal gowns, but I like to at least look put together.
