Quick Hair Touchup for the Holiday

What’s the most hectic time of the year? The holiday season—for sure!

Between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day most of us have a hard time just coming up for air! And on top of working, shopping, planning, cooking, and taking care of normal life, comes a calendar full of parties and family get-togethers.

So, if you can’t find time for your normal touchup, how about refreshing your permanent hair color with semi-permanent. It’s easy to use—no developer to mix and no damage to your hair—and will keep your color vibrant until after the rush is over.

If you don’t already color your hair, but want to give your natural shade a warmer, richer tone and plenty of shine, semi-permanent color will take your holiday look to a new level, without a lot of fuss. Check out Ion Color Brilliance Semi-Permanent—it’s a great choice.

Friday Fashion Poll

FingerPaints Fun-Fetti

Lately it seems that I’ve turned into a magpie. Everything sparkly, especially glitter nail polish, makes me say OOOH SHINY! MUST HAVE NOW! My polish collection is starting to overflow with sparkly, hard-to-remove-but-oh-so-worth-it glitter polish, and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.

So for today’s Friday Fashion Poll I wanted to see if anyone else was suffering from magpie-itis with regards to glitter polish. Please vote and let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Making deep waves

I absolutely love the lace trend for fall, and have discovered the perfect hair style to pair with this romantic look. Think old school glamour and very feminine, lady-like style, like an old school beauty bombshell.

I thought it would be complicated to create, but as it turns out there is a tool to A product thumbnail of Hot Shot Tools Nano Ceramic Deep Wavertackle this job. The Hot Shot Tools Deep Waver created the perfect waves very easily. Here is a short tutorial on how to do it:

  • Separate a strand of hair 2-3 inch wide.
  • Run a comb through the section to make sure there are no tangles.
  • Take the iron and clamp the hair as close to the head as you can without touching the scalp.
  • Hold it for about 15-20 seconds and unclamp.
  • Do not slide the iron on the hair because then you will undo the beautiful waves.
  • Continue along the section of hair until there is a wave pattern from the top of your head to the ends. It will take you a couple of sections to get the technique down but after a little practice the process will go by quickly.
  • After it’s all done, use hair spray to set the waves. You can shake your head to give it a more natural look, or leave them alone to get a more defined wave pattern. Either way your hair will have super romantic, great looking style!

What’s your favorite hair style for fall?

I {HEART} I-FEATHERS!

I’m loving the look of feather hair extensions right now! But, I have resisted the urge to jump on the feather trend…until now.

Satin Strands just came out with I-Feathers, which are made from heat-resistant synthetic hair and made to look like the popular rooster feathers. Putting them in was WAY easier than I thought it would be, and people kept coming up to me and complimenting me on my “feather” extensions. I put together a little how-to to show you how easy and cute these I-Feathers are!

STEP 1: First, I threaded a link (which was included with the package), onto a fusion hook.

STEP 2: Next, I grabbed a small portion of my own hair with the hook, and pulled it through the link.

STEP 3: Then I stuck the tipped end of the extension through the link.

STEP 4: Then, using fusion pliers, I clamped down on the link and flattened it, securing the tip and the natural hair.

STEP 5: My hair isn’t very long, and I only wanted a short feather, so I trimmed it to the right length.

RESULTS: TA-DA!  Trendy, fun, and I love it!

Friday Fashion Poll

A product thumbnail of Color Trak Extra-Wide Tint BrushesTo color or not to color, that is the question. Or at least it is for some.

For me it’s a no brainer. Dolly Parton says in Steel Magnolias, “These thighs haven’t gone out of the house without lycra on them since I was 14.” Well that’s me, but with hair color. I hit 8th grade and my hair hasn’t been its natural mousey brown since. (Thank goodness.)

I know not everyone shares my enthusiasm for all things hair color, so I’m curious about what you think. Please vote and let us know your thoughts in the comments!

Fall Fashion Leaves

I love the fall season, with the turning of the leaves and all the beautiful brown and orange colors. So, why not design a look for my nails using the warm, wonderful colors of fall?

Let’s get started!

Supplies:

Nail Polish Remover
Adhesive Labels (optional)
Polish Remover Pads
Leaf Hole Punch (optional)
Clear Base Coat
Wax Paper
Dark Brown Nail Polish
Dotting Tool or Toothpick
Light Brown Nail Polish
Thin Nail Brush
Orange Nail Polish
Clear Top Coat

Remove your old polish, file and buff your nails. Apply a clear basecoat and let dry.

Step 1:

Using the dark brown polish, paint two coats and let dry for about 30 minutes. It is very important that the polish is dry in order for step 2.

Step 2:

If you want, you can free -hand two leaves. However, I thought it might be fun to stencil them. Take one blank adhesive label (the kind you use for the return address on a letter) and punch two leaf designs out of the label using a leaf hole punch. You will use the label with the leaf holes, not the actual leaves.

Keep the leaves close together so you can add a stem later. Peel the backing paper off and carefully stick the label on your nail closer to the back of the nail, leaving room toward the tip for a bloom. Press firmly on the label to seal the leaf design to your nail. Fill in the stencil with the Light Brown polish.

You can totally fill it in or leave a stripe down the center of each to give dimension.  Carefully remove the label, and touch up any imperfections with the dark brown polish. Using a thin nail brush, paint a stem or two using the light brown polish.

Note: If you don’t have adhesive labels, I have been told that Scotch Tape works also.

Step 3: Drip a couple of drops of Orange nail polish on the wax paper. Using the dotting tool or a toothpick, dip the end in the orange polish and make dots around the tip of the stem to create a bloom. Let all nails dry for about 15 minutes and apply two coats of clear top coat.

I hope you will try this very easy and versatile design.  Have fun creating your own fall designs, and have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!

Until next time…..keep those nails covered.
