Finally, “Grooming for Guys.”

Hair removal: It’s every guy’s responsibility.

Kind people have said nice things to me about my blog posts. I love it!

But I have yet to address the subject “Grooming for Guys” in any significant way, much to the dismay of at least one reader.

So today’s blog entry is about male grooming, and it’s FOR MEN ONLY. If you’re a woman, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO READ THIS. The topic is getting rid of hair, and it’s a little embarrassing, so women, stop reading now.

Women, I said STOP READING THIS NOW.

OK, now that the women are gone, let’s light up cigars and have a chat.

I have good news, men. Grooming for guys is easy — getting rid of extra hair is 90 percent of it. And most of it involves electric gadgets. How cool is that?

Eyebrows

Kasha, the woman who cuts my hair, once told me, “I’ll trim your eyebrows, you don’t have to bother.” Dear, sweet Kasha. If I waited five weeks between eyebrow trims, my vision would be impaired. I recommend the Wahl Trimmer and a comb. This trimmer is also good for the outside areas of the ears and for touch ups here and there between haircuts.

Ear and nose hair

The Conair Pro Deluxe Nose and Ear Hair Trimmer is an excellent $10 investment. Turn it on and use it where needed. (Here’s an idea: Ask for one for a present. Then when you open it, act humiliated and embarrassed.) Also purchase a high quality tweezer, like this one by Tweezerman. It’s good for plucking those prominent individual hairs that have the consistency of wire.

The back of the neck

Yes, hair grows there. I take care of it a couple of times a week while shaving, using the razor I use on my face.

A mirror

Magnifying mirrors are revealing to a fault, and more frightening than Freddie Krueger. Do you really need to see what your nose looks like three feet high? It can be disturbing, but these mirrors make trimming sessions precise and easy. The Zadro Spot Mirror is a good choice.

Pine Cones & Ribbons Nail Art

While I was decorating my home for the holidays, I thought…why should my nails be left out? So, I decided to add some seasonal décor to them. Below are 4 easy steps to add “pine cones and red ribbons” to your nails. You need light pink and white polish, and “striping polish” like Stripe Rite from Sally Beauty Supply in medium and dark green, white, red, brown and black. Remove any old polish that may be on your nails. Tip: never use Pure Acetone on your natural nails…it dries out the nail bed and makes the nails brittle. Apply a basecoat. I use Nail Life Gripper. This basecoat will remain a little “sticky”.

Step 1: Apply pink polish to your entire nail. Then paint a white diagonal swatch across the nail.

Step 2: Using the medium green and dark green, with small, short strokes, paint a mini-garland diagonally across the nail. Highlight with white striping polish.

Step 3: With the brown striping polish, paint two pine-cone shapes. Highlight with black and white striping polish.

Step 4: Paint two red swirls for ribbons and your finished.

Apply two topcoats like Out the Door and let dry.

Now your nails aren’t “left out in the cold” for the holidays.

The Perfect Shades

In the magazines, they always ask celebrities “What’s the one beauty product you can’t live without”? And they respond with some ridiculous answer like ‘sheer lip balm’ or ‘I just put on a smile and I’m good to go’. Right. That’s why they’re celebrities. Me, on the other hand…. Where would I start? Concealer for my under-eye circles? Mascara for my invisible eyelashes? Bronzer so my freckles aren’t as pronounced? Or…

Sunglasses! That solves everything!!! I’m good to go with a great pair of sunglasses, even when I don’t have my makeup on. I went through an all-natural phase a few years ago, which my sister questioned.

Sister: Aren’t you going to put on any makeup today?

Me: No, my husband says I look better without it.

Sister: He’s lying.

Big, bold, fashionable sunglasses are perfect, whether you’re headed out in the sun, or simply like the look regardless of the forecast. Pantone’s Color of the Year

Yesterday, Pantone LLC announced their pick for 2011′s Color of the Year. The winner is – drum roll please – Honeysuckle!

What do you think? Are you a fan of this hot pink hue? To me it’s little more flattering for most than say, 2009′s Mimosa. I know I plan on trying to incorporate more pretty pinks and bright berries into my look. What about you?
