Cyber Monday Deals

Ah, the fantastic day that is Cyber Monday. The day when those of us with a healthy fear of falling victim to a super center stampede are actually encouraged to do our shopping from the safety of our homes. Not only are we encouraged, but we are actually rewarded with sales as good as, or better, than those found on Black Friday. So stay in your pjs, bask in the warm glow of your laptop and let me guide you through some of the best offers.

You are correct, it isn’t Monday yet. These offers are good starting Saturday morning, so you don’t even have to wait for Monday to start shopping. Are you excited yet?

First there is 25% off your order. That means not only is it a great time to get something for everyone on your list, it’s also a great time to shop for yourself (tell your husband you really are saving him money).  This offer can’t be combined with other order discounts or used on equipment, but it can be used on sale items and gift with purchase offers.  Check the monthly flyer for all those great deals and use promo code 555156 for the 25% off.

Not to leave our equipment shoppers high and dry, the top selling BaByliss Pro Thermal Ionic Rollabout Dryer is only $79 and the Eye-Vac Electric Dustpan is $88. These two are only good on Monday but definitely worth it.

On top of that, all equipment will ship for free on Monday. Let me repeat – no freight charges for any equipment item on Monday. If you’ve ever paid freight for a vintage looking barber chair, you know what a deal this is.

Finally, free ground shipping until December 4. No matter how large or small, your order will be delivered to your doorstep in 5-7 business days free of charge. Plenty of time to wrap your purchases and stuff those stockings!

Black Friday – Reminder!

Bending the Beauty Rules

I have a confession. I don’t always use beauty products as they’re intended to be used. I know. I’m so wildly rebellious. ;-) For example, back during the unfortunate trend of wearing lip liner darker than your lipstick, I would wear eyeliner on my lips paired with some light, frosty lipstick. How did anyone ever think that was attractive?! Yikes.

Anyway, this morning as I was using my eyelid primer as concealer for my under-eye dark circles, I starting getting curious about what different uses for product that other people have discovered. So tell me…do you bend the beauty rules? Tell me about it in the comments!

Best Tressed

For the past 16 years, Sally Beauty has commissioned the Best Tressed Survey to find out which celebrities were considered to have the best and worst hair styles that year.  In 2009, Jennifer Aniston and George Clooney took the top honors, while Lil Wayne and Lady Gaga were rated the worst.

For the 2010 Best Tressed Survey we want YOUR opinion! Which Hollywood celebrities would you nominate to be on the best and worst hairstyle lists? Let us know who you think should win in the comments, and we’ll report back with the results!

My secret to salon hair

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my hair after my hairdresser styles it. It’s always bouncy, shiny and full of volume. I call it my Shampoo Commercial Hair, or SCH for short. Her secret? She dries it with a round brush. My secret? I am hopeless at using a round brush. Sad face.

But, I have found a way to fake salon hair, and it has made me a very happy girl. The answer to my dilemma – The Jilbere de Paris Hot Air Brush. It’s a dryer and round brush in one, so I can get SCH at home without having to grow an extra arm. Fabulous!

Have you ever tried a hot air brush? Any round brush tips you’d like to share with the readers? Let us know in the comments!

Cold Weather Hair Care

I turned on my heater for the first time this past weekend and that first blast of hot, dry air reminded me it was time to start thinking about my winter hair routine.  As temperatures begin to dip and we bump up the heat in our homes, our hair is being robbed of important moisture. Add the stress of heat styling and it can leave hair dull, brittle and hard to manage. I can already tell that my hair is getting on the dry side and it’s been less than a week. Yikes! Time to moisturize!

When your hair loses moisture it starts to look dull and frizzy. Even worse, it can begin to split and break. To repair this loss, I recommend a hot oil treatment, such as Ion Hot Oil Deep Penetrating Treatment. This treatment will help restore moisture and softness to severely damaged hair from over-processing, heat styling or environmental exposure. Simply heat the bottle or tube in hot water for two to three minutes then apply and rinse. You should see immediate improvement. However if this type of treatment leaves your hair too oily, opt for a hair masque or a reconstructive conditioning crème.

These weekly treatments will begin to reverse cold weather damage to hair while a good daily conditioner will help prevent additional damage. A daily conditioner shouldn’t be so heavy that it leaves residue. One n’ Only Argan Oil can be used before styling as a treatment and even helps with frizz. If you have very coarse or curly hair, it may require an additional leave-in detangler. They come in liquid and crème form. While you can use the sprays liberally, use the crème sparingly to avoid hair looking oily or disheveled. There are some daily conditioners that target specific problems that arise during winter months. For example, Miracle 7 Leave-in Conditioner helps prevent static electricity in addition to conditioning hair.

Heat styling can also rapidly damage hair. If you curl or straighten your hair with an appliance, you should always use heat protecting products. Beyond The Zone Turn Up The Heat Serum provides thermal protection from heat stress, while conditioning and smoothing.

If you start noticing that the flakes on your sweater aren’t coming from the sky, then it might be time to switch to anti-dandruff products. Look for products that contain Pyrithione Zinc or Coal Tar, as they are the most effective. Try Ion 2-1 Anti-Dandruff shampoo or the Ion Clear-T Anti-Dandruff to calm and heal itchy, dry scalps.

Do you do anything differently to your hair during winter? Please share in the comments!
