My Dream Has Come True

Has it happened? Has my dream come true? I don’t have to color my hair every 8 weeks to keep my gray concealed? I can actually embrace my gray hair for what it is, gray hair?

Well, my group of work friends who keep me on schedule for my hair color have told me no. The fact that gray, silver and white hair is a current trend with Kelly Osbourne, Lady Gaga, Kate Moss and others, does not entitle me to grow out my natural hair color and flaunt my gray. So, according to them, I have to be celebrity status, younger or older to pull it off.  I guess I fall in the middle where it’s just not fashionable. Do you think that is the case? The beauty about hair color is that it can be changed at any point and time.

Is anyone out there tempted to go with a gray accent like Stacy London or do an all over gray like Kelis?

For now I will not attempt to disrupt my hair color schedule because the color that I use (Ion Color Brilliance Permanent Crème 4IR) is really a good color for me, but in the meantime I will dream of the day when my gray hair will be an asset and not a curse.

My saintly wife likes the gray at my temples. She doesn’t want me to color it. Not yet, anyway! Do men use Ion Color Brilliance?

Grey hair wouldn’t be so bad if the texture wasn’t so different from the rest of my hair!

I color my hair or should I say just cover the gray hair. I tried not coloring and since I have bright red hair you can see EVERY gray hair and I have been called candy cane and barber poll (in a loving way, yeah right) from my friends at work. I really hate the gray hair that is zigzag gray hair that sticks straight up when the rest of my hair is smooth.

My issue is that I like the color I use (ion deepest brown) and the gray I have, I am about 30% gray, comes in looking really silver; even my 15 year old even thinks it looks kind of cool. But, I don’t like the color of my natural dishwater blond hair. Isn’t there a way to keep coloring the colored hair and let the silver go?

I decided about five years ago, at age 51, to see what was under the chestnut brown dye I had used on my hair for years. So I began by frosting in the chestnut brown as gradually let more of the gray come in, which took about two years. Now I LOVE my streaky silver and pewter hair, and I get way more compliments on my hair now than I ever have. I use Sally’s Generic version of Shimmer Lights shampoo once a week to keep it from going brassy or dull. I say, go for it.

I opted to go platinum blonde. I bleach out then use Wella Color Charm White Lady toner. In between, I spruce up with Manic Panic Virgin Snow. I think it gives me more of a glitzy look than the mostly white with regular hair color I had been wearing. Since nature wanted me white, I accommodated her.

I don’t like the “sproigy” texture of my gray/white hair. And the red tint in my hair doesn’t mix well with gray, or white, either. Maybe in a couple of years I’ll try letting it go, when it’s all gray I’ll instead of a tossed salad of colors.

Or maybe I won’t be ready to look my age yet by then, either. Meanwhile, I’m happy there’s Sally’s to sell the color!

Personally i love grey hair! The fact that its associated with aging gives it such a bad wrap that it doesn’t deserve. It’s just as beautiful as any other colour hair, as long as you can rock it. ;3

I’m 26 and I’ve decide to rock my grays like no one’s business. I have a significant amount of them pretty much in my bangs and a bit on the top/forward part of my hair. I love to dye my hair from it’s natural deep chocolate to sizzling copper (THANK YOU L’Oreal HiColor!!) but I’m thinking of changing my gray area to a stripe Stacey London.Rogue style. Any advice on that in an upcomming post would be great!
